alltogether, 30 relatives will be in vancouver this year for christmas, and they've started to arrive. mom and dad are already here, as are my aunt rebecca, uncle tatt, aunt catherine, and cousins gerald, tim, dominic and alex. tonight i go pick up chyi, who is flying in from paris. tomorrow, tyan and jay will be here.
today we tried to snowboard on grouse mountain but it was drizzling so we decided to wait a few days. instead, we checked out a salmon hatchery and UBC.
last night i made my version of italian wedding soup with garlic bread for everyone. it seemed to go over well. here's the recipe if you care to try it:
Fusion Italian Wedding Soup with Garlic Bread 6 quarts of chicken or beef stock, preferably homemade 2 spring onion, chopped 3 cloves of garlic, minced 3 small red chili peppers, minced 3 eggs ½ cup parmesan cheese 2 spicy Italian sausages, cooked and chopped 1 cup kai-lan (Chinese broccoli) chopped ½ cup uncooked acini di pepe, or any tiny pasta 1 french baguette, sliced on an angle extra virgin olive oil 2 large cloves of garlic, whole Preheat your oven to 400. Put stock in a big pot and bring to a boil. Sprinkle olive oil on the bread and lay on a cookie sheet. Put in oven until brown once oven is hot enough. Meanwhile in a saucepan, sauté onion, garlic, chili in a bit of olive oil. Once translucent, add kai-lan and sausages. Stir. In a small bowl, beat eggs together with the parmesan cheese. When the stock is boiling, add sausage mixture and stir. Add the uncooked pasta. Right before serving, stir in the egg-cheese mixture slowly. Once bread comes out, grab raw whole garlic and rub it on the browned surface of the bread. Serve with the soup.
